Spaghetti and Meatballs
Notes
If you can’t find canned plum tomatoes, omit the canned tomatoes and tomato paste. Substitute two 24-ounce jars of canned spaghetti sauce and one 14.5-ounce can of diced tomatoes, drained.
Ingredients
- ♥ Sauce Ingredients
- 2 Tablespoons olive oil
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 4 teaspoons minced garlic
- 2 28-ounce cans Italian-style plum tomatoes, chopped
- 1 6-ounce can tomato paste
- 1 1/2 teaspoons dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- ♥ Meatball Ingredients
- 1 pound ground turkey
- 1/4 cup dry bread crumbs
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon garlic salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground pepper
- 1 Tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
- ♥ For the Sauce
- Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium high heat.
- Add onion and cook for 5 minutes
- Add garlic and cook for 2 minutes.
- Add tomatoes, tomato paste and spices.
- Simmer uncovered for 30 minutes.
- ♥ For the Meatballs
- Combine all ingredients for meatballs in a large bowl.
- Mix well and shape into 1-inch meatballs (about 24)
- Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Cook meatballs until browned on all sides, about 12 minutes.
- Add meatballs to simmering sauce and cook 10 minutes or until meatballs are cooked.
- Serve over spaghetti pasta.
