Pastry Pie Crust
Ingredients
- 1/3 cup plus 1 Tablespoon shortening
- 1 cup flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 to 3 Tablespoons cold water
Instructions
- This recipe makes a single crust. Double the recipe if you need a top crust for the pie.
- Cut shortening into flour and salt using pastry blender until the mixture becomes coarse crumbs.
- Sprinkle with cold water and toss with a fork until all flour is moistened.
- Form a ball.
- Shape into a flat round shape on a floured flat surface.
- Roll dough into a circle 2 inches larger than the upside-down pie pan.
- Fold pastry into quarters.
- Unfold into pie pan and press firmly against bottom and sides of pan.
- Bake 8 to 10 minutes at 475 degrees.
- Cool on a wire rack.
